The Ensemble

“Ensemble Transmission prove terrific advocates of works by Ana Sokolović” ~ Bruce Reader – The Classical Reviewer

“Ensemble Transmission offers a remarkable series of performances with careful attention to the tiniest details of sound, realizing with particular beauty Sokolovic’s crackling rhythmic language and most delicate, intimate ensemble passages.” ~ Cecilia Livingston – Musicworks

“The music wears well and leaves you with a feeling of satisfaction that one has encountered significant modern contemporary music.” ~ Grego Applegate Edwards – Classical-Modern Music Review

Montréal-based Ensemble Transmission is a collective of six musicians, independent thinkers and producers playing mostly modern and contemporary music from solo to sextet – without a conductor!

2016-2017 is the 10th season for Ensemble Transmission! A warm welcome to flutist Jocelyne Roy who joins Stéphane Fontaine (clarinet), Alain Giguère (violin), Julie Trudeau (cello), Julien Grégoire (percussion) and Brigitte Poulin (piano).

Since 2008, Transmission’s finely nuanced performances have gained attention in Canada and abroad with tours to France, Cyprus, the USA and across Canada, and two albums – ‘Folklore imaginaire’ (Naxos) and ‘Transmission’ (self-distributed).

Transmission is passionate about their role in promoting the continued development of contemporary music. They regularly commission new works, and living composers are heavily present in their repertoire. Moreover, Transmission’s fresh energy is contagious to upcoming generations: they encourage the pursuit of contemporary music through their re@transmission mentorship program for young emerging musicians.

The ensemble has performed at Théâtre La Chapelle, the Montréal/Nouvelle Musique (MNM) Festival of the SMCQ, the Canadian Centre for Architecture (Montreal), the SoundaXis Festival (Toronto), the International Chamber Music Festival (Ottawa), New Works Calgary, New Music Edmonton, GroundSwell (Winnipeg), the Xenakis Projects of the Americas (New York), the international festival Les Nouvelles Flâneries musicales de Reims and the Festival International de musique contemporaine de la Fondation Pharos.

From 2013 to 2016, Ensemble Transmission enjoyed three active seasons as the resident ensemble at the Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur, one of Montreal’s exceptional venues for chamber music.
