Ensemble Transmission is a collective of six musicians who are independent artists, thinkers and producers: Guy Pelletier, flute; Lori Freedman, clarinet; Alain Giguère, violin; Julie Trudeau, cello; Julien Grégoire, percussion; Brigitte Poulin, piano. Ensemble Transmission plays mostly modern and contemporary music from solo to sextet and the programmes are chosen entirely based on what the members want to play.

Each musician is driven by an innate musical curiosity: each is entirely immersed in the creation, the diffusion and the advancement of contemporary music practice. Transmission also initiates projects that straddle composition and improvisation in the explorative zone where the performance practice itself creates its own music. Transmission radiates a fresh and essential energy, an artistic refuge allowing constant research for and practice of new performance works. This, their contagious force enables them to present projects otherwise impossible to realize.

Operating within an colleagial atmosphere and egalitarian structure, all members of Ensemble Transmissionare responsible for the development of their projects, the communication and promotion, as well as their financial matters.

Since its beginning in 2008, the finely detailed work of Transmission was immediately noticed and with conspicuous attention by the Canadian and International musical milieu. The ensemble received performance invitations from La Chapelle Theater, SMCQ, the MNM Festival and the Canadian Centre for Architecture (Montreal), the SoundaXis Festival (Toronto) and the International Chamber Music Festival (Ottawa) as well as the Xenakis Projects of the Americas (New York).

From July 10 – 17 2011 with financial support from the CALQ Ensemble Transmission will be giving its European début: it has been invited to be the ensemble-in-residence by the international festival Les Nouvelles Flâneries de Reims. There, at one of the ten most important festivals in France they will be presenting two programmes: Transmettre and Its all Xenakis, as well as giving public masterclasses and open rehearsals.

For the 2011/2012 season Ensemble Transmission will give its Montreal audience several musical panopolies: across the ages with Trans-époques (6 concerts during February and March in the setting of Cam en tournée); across Italy over the past two musical decades with the programme Transmission italienne (at Tanna Schulich Hall on March 14, 2012); Small is Beautiful is a cross-section of one composer’s work, a concert dedicated entirely to the music of Ana Sokolovic (Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur on May 31, 2012). Ensemble Transmission is newly associated with the promotion agency Latitude 45.
